Getting You Back to What You Love

Sport and physical activity are good for you — but they also put the body under load that can, over time or in a single moment, lead to injury. Whether you're a competitive athlete, a weekend footy player, a regular runner, or someone who simply pushed too hard at the gym, sports injuries are something Dr Renae sees and manages regularly at Mordialloc Chiropractic.

The goal isn't just to get you out of pain — it's to understand what happened, why, and what needs to change to help you return to full activity with confidence and reduce the chance of the same injury recurring.

Common sports injuries assessed at the clinic

  • Ankle sprains and lower leg strains
  • Knee pain — including patellofemoral pain and IT band syndrome
  • Hip tightness, groin strains, and hip flexor injuries
  • Lower back and sacroiliac joint pain from running or impact sports
  • Shoulder pain from throwing, swimming, or overhead sport
  • Neck and upper back pain from contact sport or cycling
  • Overuse injuries — tendinopathies, stress-related pain, recurring niggles

Why a thorough assessment matters

Many sports injuries are not simply about the injured tissue — they reflect underlying movement patterns, joint restrictions, muscle imbalances, or training loads that made the injury more likely. Treating the symptom alone, without understanding the contributing factors, is one of the most common reasons people keep getting the same injury over and over.

Dr Renae assesses not just the painful area but the joints and movement above and below it, looking for the full picture that's driving your problem. This informs a care plan that targets the injury and the factors making it more likely to recur.

How chiropractic care may help

Depending on your injury and stage of recovery, Dr Renae uses hands-on techniques to reduce joint restriction and muscle tension, advice on load management and return-to-sport planning, and practical guidance on movement and technique. She works collaboratively with other practitioners — GPs, physiotherapists, sports doctors — and will refer you to the appropriate provider where a different skill set is needed, such as imaging, surgical review, or physiotherapy-led rehabilitation.

Common Questions

Sports Injuries & Chiropractic Care

Yes — for many types of sports injury, chiropractic assessment and care are a valuable part of recovery. Dr Renae assesses the full picture of your injury, including the joint, muscle, and movement factors contributing to it, and provides hands-on care and practical guidance to support your return to sport. She'll refer you on where a different provider is the better fit — such as imaging, surgery, or specialist physiotherapy rehabilitation.

This depends on the type and severity of the injury. For acute injuries, an early assessment is useful to understand what's happened and get appropriate management started — even if hands-on care needs to wait until the acute inflammation settles. For subacute or chronic sports injuries, care can begin as soon as you're ready. Contact us if you're unsure.

Many athletes use regular chiropractic assessment as part of their maintenance and performance routine — not just when they're injured, but to keep joints moving well and identify minor restrictions before they become problems. Dr Renae can discuss whether a maintenance approach would suit your activity level and goals.

No referral is required. You can book directly. If you're seeing other practitioners for your injury, let us know — Dr Renae is happy to work alongside your existing care team and communicate with other providers where helpful.
